New Sauces that make Supper
Like you, we're always trying to include more vegetables into our lives. But, planning interesting dishes with a "plant slant" can be challenging. That's where a new, delicious sauce comes to the rescue!

IN THIS ISSUE, we've banished "blah" in favor of "wow" with three fall vegetable dishes. We're roasting and grilling, then topping each with new, inspired sauces. You'll find Roasted Cauliflower with Sauce Vierge, Brussels Sprouts with Toasted Walnuts and Apple Cider-Chile Butter Sauce, and Grilled Eggplant Antipasto with Creamy Walnut Sauce, Tomato, and Feta. We thought these recipes would be good, however, we didn't know they'd be fantastic! Three keepers and repeaters! Everyone is back in school and as for Acorn Farm, most of our cooking classes are full!  We have such a wide variety of classes this time that we still have a few spots left!  Consider looking at the list and trying something new this Fall!  Have your calendar handy as you browse the class list, and give us a call at 248-684-1373 if you see a class you'd like to register for.  Classes fill quickly, so don't delay!

Making the Cut - A Hands-On Knife Skills Class - FULL!

If you've not taken Ed's knife skills class, you'll want to make this a priority!  Learn how to properly hold, pass, and care for your knives as well as the correct way to slice, chop, and more!  Ed Bartush has a wealth of knowledge about knives and is willing to share it with us in this very hands-on class!  Come, learn something and be entertained, as well!  Each participant will leave with a Wusthof bench scraper (a $14.99 value!)

The Edge - Knife Sharpening

It's that time of year! Bring in those dull knives and let's sharpen them up!  Ed Bartush from Wusthof will be sharpening knives for you for free from 12:30 until 3:30.  Bring up to three knives, no serrated knives, please.

This hands-on class is just plain fun!  Learn to decorate cookies from our resident expert, Sharon Mancini.  She makes such gorgeous cookies and she'll teach you what you need to know to do the same.  You'll decorate four different large cookies and bring them home with you, looking quite professional.  You'll learn some great decorating skills like pipe and flow, wet on wet, etc., and all you'll need to bring is your enthusiasm!  Sharon's a great teacher and you'll have a wonderful time!  Here are the cookies for the evening:  Acorn, Haunted House, Autumn Leaf, Pumpkin

Our take on Pretzels and beer are just the beginning.  What would Oktoberfest be without sausage?  Chef Steven will be teaching this one and taking us on our first foray into sausage-making.  We've had many requests for a charcuterie class, so we thought we'd start by doing a garlic sausage, from start to finish, right in class!
